Friday, August 30st
1-5pm Girdwood Community Room open with Fungus Display, foray and workshop info and registration, and shirts, mushroom art and books for sale.
7-10pm Fungus Fair Formal + Girdwood Health Clinic Fundraiser Hotel Alyeska, Columbia Ballroom. Enjoy FIVE gourmet courses all featuring choice wild and domestic mushrooms with wine pairings (MENU). Evening also includes live and silent auctions full of items from local artists and businesses and music by Jackie and the Standard Deviations. All proceeds from the dinner will benefit Girdwood Health Clinic, Inc. and future Fungus Fairs. Cost is $80 per person, or $750 for a 10 top table ($75 per seat) so round up some friends and book a table early! Tickets for the Formal are on sale at the Tram Ticket office or by calling (907) 754-2275. The Formal is made possible from a generous donation from the Byrne Family and the Hotel Alyeska.
Saturday, August 31st
9:30am-5pm Community Room Open for workshop and foray registration, fungus display, shirts, books and art for sale.
10:30am, 11am, and 11:30am, Forays $5 Guided mushroom walks with mycologists - 3 groups will explore the world of fungi in their natural environments. Experts will provide a wealth of information on species idenification, how to find them and proper collecting techniques. Each group is limited to the first 15 people to register. Starting Friday at 1pm, you can call 907-242-8760 to reserve a spot, but you must arrive 30min in advance of the foray to pay and confirm your spot. Foray leaders: Michael Beug (10:30am), Ken Hodges(11am) and Dominique Collet (11:30am). All groups meet at the Community room 15 minutes prior to foray start, but if you haven't paid yet you will need to arrive 30 minutes early. ***NOTE***Forays fill up fast, call early and often (please do not leave a voicemail message) to reserve your spot! Please be patient, we generally experience a large call volume on Friday afternoon.
12-3pm *Workshop* Mushrooms to Dye With ($25) Dye 2 silk scarves with Teresa Paquet using pigments derived entierly from locally collected mushrooms extracted into water baths. Max. 12 people. Starting Friday at 1pm, you can call 907-242-8760 to reserve a spot, but you must arrive 30min in advance of the workshop to pay and confirm your spot.
1-2pm *Talk* For the Love of Mushrooms Discover the fabulous and ecologically vital world of mushroom producing fungi with Dr. Michael Beug.
2-3pm *Talk* Common Mushrooms of South Central AK. A slide show of common species that occur in our area and how to identify them. Kate Mohatt
3:30-4:30pm *Talk* Hallucinogenic Mushrooms. Dr. Beug discusses his research with Paul Stamets, Jeremy Bigwood and Jonatan Ott.
3-6pm *Workshop* Modeling Mushrooms: Clay Fungi Sculptures ($30). Sculpt and glaze two mushroom statues in this clay workshop with Barbara Lydon. Model your piece after known species or create your own unique magical mushrooms! Please note: sculptures will be dried slowly & fired remotely; they will be available for pick up at the Glacier Ranger District after September 16th. Max. 20 people. Starting Friday at 1pm, you can call 907-242-8760 to reserve a spot, but you must arrive 30min in advance of the workshop to pay and confirm your spot.
Sunday, September 2nd
