2017 Girdwood Fungus Fair Schedule of Events

All events will take place at the Girdwood Community Room unless otherwise noted. Display and talks are FREE, and do not require advanced registration but seating is limited for the talks so please arrive early if you require a seat. Updated 07/21/2017. Registration for forays and workshops begin online at midnight, Aug. 1st.

Saturday, August 26th


9:30am-5 pm Community Room open with Fungus display, t-shirts and books.


10am, 10:30am, 11am, 11:30am Forays ($10) Guided mushroom walks with mycologists. Each group is limited to the first 15 people to register.  Register online in advance through Brown Paper Tickets. Meet at Community Room 15 minutes prior to foray. Foray leaders:  Steve Trudell (10am), Kitty LaBounty (10:30am), Kate Mohatt(11am) and Craig Ziolkowski (11:30am). Register online at Brown Paper Tickets starting Aug, 1st.


10am-4pm *Workshop*  Mushrooms to Dye With ($45) Dye wool and silk with pigments derived purely from wild harvested mushrooms (many found locally) with Tongass Lichenologist Karen Dillman. Register online in advance through Brown Paper Tickets. Check in at the Girdwood Community Room 15 minutes prior to Workshop, which will be held nearby at the Nissman Pavillion. 1-1:45pm *Talk* Fascinating and Rare Fungal Finds from Southern Alaska Kate Mohatt


2-2:50pm *Talk* Beginers Guide to Alaskan Mushroom ID Craig Ziolkowski


3-4 pm *Talk* Mushrooms of Southeast Alaska Kitty LaBounty


4-5pm*Kids Foray* ($5) Kids Foray with Gabriel. Kids ages 5-11 . Limited to the first 10 to register online at Brown Paper Tickets. A parent or adult chaperone is required


6-8pm *FUNdraiser* Join us at the Girdwood Brewing Company for a casual evening with food, local beers, silent auction items or raffle prizes (TBD), and fun with fungi games. Tshirts will be available for purchase. No cover charge or advanced ticket purchase required.


Sunday, August 27th


9:30am-3pm Fungus display, shirts, books  at the Girdwood Community Room.


10am, 10:30am and 11am Forays ($10) Groups meet at ranger station 15 min. prior, limited to first 15 to register online in advance through Brown Paper Tickets. 11am-1pm *Workshop* Mushroom Cultivation with Far North Fungi ($15)The owners of Far North Fungi will be offering a make your own oyster mushroom home cultivation kit as well as giving a talk on what they do.   Register online starting Aug. 1st at Brown Paper Tickets.


1-2pm *Talk* Lichens of Alaska Karen Dillman


2-3pm *Talk/Demo* Edible Fungi Preparation and Preservation Locals Craig Ziolkowski and Norm Starkey will share their favorite preparation and preservation methods for locally harvested wild mushrooms.


4-5pm *Kids Foray* ($5) Kids Foray with Gabriel. Kids ages 5-1. Limited to the first 10 to register online at Brown Paper Tickets. A parent or adult chaperone is required
