3pm *Foray ($15) Polypore Foray with Philippe Join Dr. Philippe Amstislavski to learn about these fascinating and cosmopolitan fungi! Artifacts from the Arctic world and beyond going back to over 5,000 years point to the long-standing tradition of using Chaga, Mayatake, Chicken-of-the-Woods, Tinder Fungus and other polypores for food, tinder, clothing, and medicinals.

New developments in citizen science make it easier than ever to make a lasting contribution to knowledge of our fungi. Shannon will share her journey from learning to forage to an interest in taxonomy, steps which led her to describe a new mushroom species. 3-4pm **Talk** Philippe Amistislavski- Fungus vs Plastic: How Alaskan Polypores become heroes in fighting ocean plastic pollution. A presentation on how the Alaskan fungi became the center of the effort to design and biofabricate sustainable furniture and shipping containers for food. We will cover some of the ironic polypore species we now employ in the nascent synthetic biology and the ecosystem services they offer. Philippe will engage the folks in a hands-on exploration of how these cryptic organisms offer solutions to some of the biggest problems we are facing in the Arctic and beyond! CANCELLED
